Recorder Lessons

We have only a very limited number of places available for recorder lessons; these are aimed at beginners and
advanced students who wish to learn the ‘concert flute’ with a view to
taking part in competitions and concerts. Preparation for university study is available.
Our recorder tutor is Dr Tino Drenger.
A high level of motivation and exceptional talent are required for these lessons.
A trial lesson and an introductory meeting can be arranged by prior arrangement.

Criteria for "good" recorder lessons
Above all else, the aim is to help students discover a love of music and their own instrument. The joy of musical expression is just as fundamental to success as the development of particular talents. With wind instruments, the student’s own body is also part of the sound-making process. That is why we focus on developing a beautiful tone right from the start.
To achieve this, we proceed as follows:
•    Use of high-quality teaching materials, selection of age- and level-appropriate repertoire, and the pursuit of clear learning objectives
•    Individual support tailored to age, prior knowledge and learning pace
•    Incorporation of findings from music education and developmental psychology
•    Creation of a supportive and learning-friendly classroom atmosphere
•    Guidance on effective practice at home using suitable practice strategies
•    Encouraging independence and self-directed music-making
•    Regular progress reviews and adjustment of learning objectives
•    Teaching playing techniques: healthy breathing technique, correct posture, clean finger technique, precise fingering changes
•    Development of musicality: a beautiful tone and controlled tone production from the outset, a sense of rhythm, understanding of metre, intonation, musical ear
•    Gradual development of technical and musical skills: reading music, basics of music theory, musicality and expression (phrasing, dynamics, articulation)
•    Methodologically varied
